Celebrating two years of Network achievements


The Multi-Stakeholder SDG Forum will bring together national speakers on October 10,2017. This event will feature a line of speakers representing the different stakeholders working towards achieving the SDGs in Lebanon. Ministries, Civil society organisations and the private sector will discuss key issues revolving around the SDGs. Networks from all around the region will be attending which include Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and UAE. Additionally, companies from our network will be present as well as representatives from New York.

About Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a UN Initiative as part of “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda” which comprises a set of seventeen aspirational 'Global Goals' to protect the planet, address climate change and economic inequality and ensure that citizens across the globe enjoy peace, justice and prosperity. Business in turn has a crucial role to play in achieving each of the SDGs, and has proven that it is ready and willing to collaborate.

Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri

Fadlo, R. Khuri, MD, is the 16th president of the American University of Beirut. He was elected in March 2015 and assumed office in September 2015. Dr. Khuri was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Emory University School of Medicine, and holds the Roberto C. Goizueta Distinguished Chair for Cancer Research. He also served as Deputy Director for the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Dr. Khuri was also appointed Executive Associate Dean for Research of the Emory University School of Medicine. An AUB trustee and AUB former student, he has been a member of Naef K. Basile Foundation Board of Trustees since 2005, and a member of the Atlanta International School Board of Trustees since 2009. Dr. Khuri has chaired the AUB Medical School International Advisory Committee since 2010. He served as chair of the education committee of the Atlanta International School board of trustees.
Dr. Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey, PhD, a recognized scholar in management and human resources, is currently the dean of the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB) at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Dr. Harvey was the dean of the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, which is ranked by both the Economist and Bloomberg Businessweek amongst the best business schools worldwide. Dr. Harvey’s areas of expertise include: organization staffing, management, human resource management, organizational behavior, occupational stress and wellness, and organizational conflict and negotiations. As dean, he has experience in introducing innovative new programs in both regular and executive education. In addition to his work in higher education, Dr. Harvey has served as a consultant to the private and non-profit sectors. He regularly presents his work at international conferences and has published in diverse journals.
Mr. Philippe Lazzarini

Since August 2015, Philippe Lazzarini is assigned by the UN Secretary-General as the Deputy UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL), UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon and the United Nations Development Program Resident Representative. He has extensive experience in humanitarian assistance and international coordination in conflict and post-conflict areas at senior levels, including through his latest assignment in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia as Deputy Special Representative, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator. Prior to this, he held a number of senior positions in the United Nations for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and in various field positions in Iraq, Angola, Somalia and the Occupied Palestinian Territory.  He also served for 10 years with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as the deputy Head of Communication, Head of the ICRC delegation in Rwanda, Angola, and Sarajevo and as an ICRC delegate in Southern Sudan, Jordan, Gaza, and Beirut.

Nada Zaarour is the President of Green Mind, a leading Non-Governmental Organization in the MENA region working on sustainability, and President of the Green Party of Lebanon. Nada has lead top Green movements in Lebanon advocating environmental protection, CO2 emissions reduction, eco-attitudes integration, women empowerment and Green economy stimulation. Zaarour is Board Member of the CAN Arab World (Climate Action Network), Partner with religious authorities in Lebanon and abroad developing programs for Faith and Conservation, Member of the Environmental Committee in Bkerké, Member of the National Coalition for Political Participation of Women, and Member of the civil society dialogue table.

Member of the Board of Directors since April 2010, she serves as General Manager of the Bank since September 2014. Mrs. Nahas began her career in banking at Banque Libano-Française in 1997 as a Financial Analyst and subsequently, has taken responsibilities in project finance,investment banking, retail banking and bancassurance. She was elected member of the Board of Directors and appointed Deputy General Manager in March 2010. Mrs. Nahas founding Member of LIFE (Lebanese International Finance Executive). She chairs the Promote Pillar of this non-profit association that seeks to channel the influence and expertise of its members to help them connect, promote Lebanon and its economy and nurture the next generation. Mrs. Nahas received a degree in Economics and a Masters in Financial Management from Paris-Dauphine University (France) and a Masters diploma in Money, Banking and Finance from Panthéon-Sorbonne University (France).

Mr. Khoury, born in 1975 from Choueifat. Mr. Khoury is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds a BA in Economics and a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the American University of Beirut (AUB). Founder of Cedrus Invest Bank and Cedrus Bank SAL. Mr. Khoury has extensive and varied banking experiences with a focus on Wealth Management, Investment and Commercial Banking Services. As a former director at BARCLAYS WEALTH Mr. Khoury was in charge of team bankers who covered the MENA and Gulf region. He also spent more than seven years with Audi Group where he has held Senior Management positions in Private Banking in Lebanon, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Pasini was Previously Country Programme Coordinator for Iraq (2011-2013) and responsible for UNIDO Operations in the country, particularly in promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development Dr. Pasini began his career with UNIDO in 2006, where he was responsible for the formulation and implementation of technical cooperation programmes for boosting entrepreneurship, promoting investment, and development of small and medium enterprises in Jordan and Iraq. Before 2006, he worked in the industrial sector in Italy. He has a Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sapienza University in Rome, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), from SDA Bocconi School of Management in Rome.

Tania Moussallem has more than 20 years of banking experience and is currently Assistant General Manager heading the Support and Marketing Group at BLC bank after having spent 6 years as Head of Strategic Development and Financial Management Group. Since May 2015, she is the Chair of the GBA (Global Banking Alliance for Women), an organization that brings together banks and financial institutions from all over the world that develop strategies for the promotion of women’s economic empowerment. In November 2016, she received the Leadership award from GBA (Global Banking Alliance for Women). In 2015, she has been selected among the most influential women in the Arab Banking Sectors by the Union of Arab Banks. She joined BLC bank in 2008 where she conducted several strategic and innovative development projects involving external and organic growth for the bank among which the launching of the We initiative and SME’s programs. She has been on USB Bank Board of Directors (Cypriot subsidiary of BLC Bank) and sits on several committees in BLC Bank. She had started her career at Société Générale de Banque au Liban where she held several managerial positions in the Corporate and Investment Banking Division. In parallel, she had built a solid experience in privatization of the energy, water and waste water sectors. She holds a Master’s degree in Finance & Communication from Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales ESSEC, France and a degree in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut.

Traboulsi currently leads Bank Audi’s Marketing and Communications Strategy as well as its implementation in digital and traditional solutions, including Internal Communication and work closely with the CSR team. He has a broad experience in Marketing and Communications from both creative and business perspectives. Throughout his 26 years at Leo Burnett MENA, he contributed to the marketing efforts of several multinational brands in the Middle East, such as Citi, General Motors, Philip Morris, Procter & Gamble and Samsung, to name a few. He also contributed and participated in several CSV projects in Africa, the UAE, Egypt and Lebanon. Currently based in Beirut, Mr. Traboulsi has devised and lead communication strategies, business development projects, CSR initiatives, public relations as well as digital transformation and operational teams. Having previously held the positions of Business Director, Managing Director - U.A.E. - and Regional Director Growth & Reputation at Leo Burnett in the MENA region, he joined the Bank Audi Group a year ago.

Nada Génadry is the Human Resources Director of LibanPost (Lebanese Postal Operator; 1000 +employees; 95 + Post Offices). Prior to that, she has set up the Regional HR Department of the Debbane Group, and has also led the Human Development & Communication Department at Hotel-Dieu de France Hospital. Before her come back to Lebanon, she undertook several years of research with the INSEAD Business School (France) in Organizational Behavior, developing a new methodology for duality based tension analysis and resolution at work, with leading companies in France, USA, and Norway. She started her professional life as a Telecom Engineer and worked in R&D with Bell Northern Research (Canada) and the CNET (France). Nada is a passionate Human Resources & Organization Development professional. For the past 25 years, she lived and worked in several countries, and had exposure to various industries, types of organizations (family businesses, local companies and multinationals) as well as to various national and organizational cultures. Nada is keen to build constructive partnerships with line managers, in order to maximize business results within a healthy setup. She values integrity, respect of others, continuous improvement, and balancing between organizational and human needs while catering for results. Nada has lectured for several years (HR DESS courses – USJ), and facilitated conferences and workshops (AUB, USJ, AUST). She has also co-written HR articles and chapters published in international magazines and books. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree (with distinction) and a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (McGill University - Canada), a DESS in HR and a Mediation Diploma (USJ), as well as a Co-Active Coaching Diploma (CTI).

Dr. Dima Jamali is Professor of Management and Kamal Shair Endowed Chair in Responsible Leadership in the Olayan School of Business, American University of Beirut. She holds a PhD in Social Policy and Administration, from the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK. Her research and teaching revolve primarily around Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Social Entrepreneurship (SE). She is the author and/or editor of three books (CSR in the Middle East; SE in the Middle East; and CSR in Developing Countries), and over 50 international publications, focusing on different aspects of CSR and SE in the Middle East all appearing in top journals, including Journal of Business Ethics, Business Ethics Quarterly and British Journal of Management. She is the winner of the 2010 Shoman Prize for best young Arab researcher and a member of the Eisenhower Fellows, a global network of leading professionals committed to collaborate for a more prosperous, just and peaceful world.

Dr. Mohamed H. Sayegh is currently the Raja N. Khuri Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Vice President of Medical Affairs at the American University of Beirut. He was appointed in this position in 2009. He was a professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School since 2003, and Director of the Schuster Family Transplantation Research Center at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. In 2005, he was named the Warren E. Grupe and John P. Merrill Endowed Chair in Transplantation Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Sayegh is a world leader in transplantation, renal medicine and transplantation immunobiology research. In his field, he has made substantial and landmark contributions. Most recently, Dr. Sayegh was elected into Arab Business’ 2011 and 2012 Power 500 - World’s Most Influential Arabs
Dr. Shadi Saleh

Dr. Shadi Saleh is Founding Director of the Global Health Institute, Associate Vice President for Health Affairs and Professor of Health Systems and Financing at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Dr. Saleh currently leads the operationalization of AUB’s new Vision on Health, Health 2025. In his previous role as Chairperson of the Health Management and Policy Department at the Faculty of Health Sciences at AUB, he founded the Collaborative for Leadership and Innovations in Health Systems (CLI) and the Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA). Prior to joining AUB, Dr. Saleh served as a professor of health care finance at the State University of New York at Albany; where he also served as Director of Certificate Programs. Dr. Saleh’s areas of expertise are in health care financing policy and reform, economic evaluations of innovative health care interventions, and building a business case for quality and health care access and equity. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and commissioned reports and serves on the editorial boards of leading health systems journals. He serves as a World Bank, WHO and UN advisor for health care financing policy and system strengthening projects. Shadi Saleh holds a PhD in Health Policy (minor in health care finance) from the University of Iowa and an Masters of Public Health (health services administration) and a BS from AUB.

She has 20 years of experience in finance and entrepreneurship as a portfolio manager for 12 years in European Equities at Comgest, a €20bn growth equity fund focused on investing in growth companies and as a founder and chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum of the pan-Arab region, an organization that promotes entrepreneurship and organises, among other things, the MIT Arab start-up competition since 2006.

Dr. Pierre ABOU-EZZE, born in 1955, Assistant General Manager at BLOM BANK S.A.L., has over 20 years of hands-on experience in Human Resources. He has been the Head of HR at BLOM BANK S.A.L. since 1998, and he served as Advisor to the Chairman on training issues from 1995 to 1998. Prior to joining BLOM BANK S.A.L., Dr. ABOU-EZZE was in academia. He served as the Director of the Graduate School of Business and Management at the American University of Beirut (AUB) from 1993 to 1996, and he was Assistant Professor at the same school from 1991 to 1997. Before moving back to Lebanon, Dr. ABOU-EZZE started his career as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and at the University of Kuwait. Dr. ABOU-EZZE continues to lecture at various Universities in Lebanon, and to lead seminars and workshops in the field of Human Resources. He served as the Chairman of the Human Resources & Social Affairs Committee at the Association of Banks in Lebanon for 2 consecutive terms from 2005 to 2009. Dr. ABOU-EZZE holds a Ph.D. in Economics from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada.

Ms. Fida Kanaan Kharrat works closely with partnering organizations to create high-impact, innovative learning experiences. She devises executive education programs to develop organizational talent driving strategy and accelerating business outcomes. Fida worked with numerous clients in the region including Hikma, AlFardan, Bank Audi, Coca-Cola, Janssen, Aramex and NBK. In addition, Fida works with SMBs targeting the scalability challenge of startups. As such, she led the Citi Foundation Women Entrepreneurship Program and Family Business Programs as well as the Growth Readiness Program focusing on scaling-up high-impact entrepreneurial ventures in preparation of their second round of financing. Most recently, Fida has been focusing on key strategic projects at the Olayan School of Business including AUB Stanford Women in Data Science initiative, driving strategic digital solutions such as Client Relationship Management System and Executive Level Blended Learning Experiences. Prior to joining AUB, Fida took on different managerial positions for leading global and regional organizations in Lebanon and the US. She also held the position of a project manager for multiple technology organizations managing multimedia and large portal projects. Fida holds an MBA with an emphasis on Management Information Systems from George Washington University and a BS in Computer Science from the American University of Beirut.

H.E. Mr. Marwan Hamade serves as a Director of Credit Libanais SAL. H.E. Hamade is a Member of the Strategic Council of St Joseph University, Beirut. She is married to General Chamel Roukoz and is mother of five children: Joseph, Michèle, Emma, Jad, and Imad. Hasan Youness is specialized in international business management, educational administration, and educational leadership. Having acquired his degrees from Notre Dame University, KEDGE Business School and Saint Louis University respectively, he went on to pursue an executive CSR program at Harvard Business School Executive Education. Hasan started teaching at the university level at the age of 23 and has been teaching at five universities since then. In addition, he is also a news anchor, TV presenter, researcher, author, mentor, and trainer on a wide array of management, entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, CSR, and communication topics in Lebanon and abroad. In addition, he has been a Tedx speaker and guest on top TV channels in the Arab world. Despite having worked with leading companies, Hasan did not limit himself to the business sector. Rather, he has chosen to work with UNIDO and UNRWA, in addition to other NGOs. Since receiving her B.A. in Business Administration from the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut (AUB), Dina Harake has experienced living in a multitude of different countries. Her exposure to diverse cultures and traditions has enabled her to grasp a better understanding of the essentials necessary to the growth of a strong and prosperous society. Dina has also had extensive industry experience in human resource management, business development and entrepreneurship as well as community activism. She is the founder and Co-Owner of Well B, a restaurant dedicated to catering food and beverage specialties with an emphasis on wellness and nutritional balance. Mrs. Harake is also involved in noteworthy organisations as she currently serves on the Board of Trustees at the Beirut Marathon Association. She also figures as a prominent member of the Blessing and Tamanna Foundations. Her goals in joining an initiative such as GCNL is to contribute in balancing the needs of vulnerable demographics and to work with governments and organisations to deliver sustainable programs as effectively and efficiently as possible.
